Waiting for an assignment; waiting for the check to come in from that assignment. Waiting for an event to start or waiting for inspiration to strike. Right now I’m waiting to hear back about a fellowship, some exhibition opportunities, a grant and a few other things. And for the weather to warm up.

If you’re smart you use the wait time to have a look around and get to know the world. But sometimes all you can do is think about how you’re waiting. But waiting is good. it reminds us that we, despite what we might think, are not in control. So you wait until they, it, he or she is good and ready. And then you carry on…

And next year? I can honestly say I don’t know where I’ll be. And for me that’s the point. I don’t get two weeks of freedom each year, the rest of my time beholden to someone else. Of course I don’t get two regular paychecks a month either. It’s a trade off I’ve been happy to make for some time now. The idea that this time next year I might be in Florence or Prague or St. Petersburg is hard to resist and one I’m not sure I can live without. Once you start actually following your dreams it’s not unlike a drug. It’s hard to stop. It’s even harder to come up with reasons why you should…

They are made up of small local groups and the area that I’m living one has [...]]]> Last week I got back to working on a project that I started just before I left Barcelona last year. During a local festival I came upon some Castellers. These guys build human towers and well, they are very cool.

They are made up of small local groups and the area that I’m living one has a group so I’ve decided to start photographing them during the practices. Now building a human tower three, four or five levels high is cool enough, but what struck me about this group of their diversity. Men and women participate as well as children as young and four and people past retirement. This very traditional Catalan activity is also ethnically diverse. So this week I’ll be sharing some images…
